எடுத்து நான் விடவா என் பாட்டை தோழா தோழா !

சங்கீதம்.. ஒரு வரம்..

ஒரு வரப் பிரசாதம்..

எல்லாருக்கும்.. சுலபமா வராது..

எதுக்கு சுத்தி வளைச்சுனு நீங்க கேட்கறது என் காதில விழரது..

என்னோட தாத்தா சங்கீதம் தெரிஞ்ச வக்கீல்..

அந்த காலத்தில புதுக்கோட்டையில..

அத்தைகள் பாடினால் நாள் முழுக்க கேட்டுண்டே இருக்கலாம்..

என் அப்பா.. harmonium எடுத்து வாசிக்க ஆரம்பிச்சால்..

ராக சஞ்சாரத்தில மூழ்ழ்ழ்ழ்ழ்ழ்ழ்ழ்ழ்ழ்கிடுவார்..

ஆனால்.. சோதனை என்னவென்று சொன்னால்..

இந்த குடும்பத்து வாரிசு எல்லாம்..

"சங்கீதமா....கிலோ என்ன விலை என்று கேட்கிற.. மஹானுபாவர்கள்.

ஆனா.. கொஞ்சம் என் அப்பாவோட காத்து எனக்கு அடிச்சு..

எங்க ஆத்துகாரரும் கச்சேரிக்கு போறார்னு.. நானும் வீணை கிளாஸ் போனேன்..

நான் என் friend ராஜி, பெரிய ராஜி அக்கா..நாங்க மூணு பேரும் ஒரு group.

எங்க பாட்டு மாமி பேரு கல்யாணி ..

ரொம்ப தெய்வீகமா.. ரொம்ப musical ஆ இருப்பா..

மாமா.. அவர்.. மூக்கு.. அதுதான்.. highlight

வாரத்தில் ரெண்டு நாள் தான் class..

கடுப்பில சேர்ந்த class.. கொஞ்ச நாள்ல கலகலப்பா மாற ஆரம்பிச்சது..

காரணம் மாமாவோட குட மிளகாய் மூக்குதான்..

வீணை வாசிக்க ஆரம்பிச்சதும்.. அவர் பாடுவார் பாருங்கோ..

அவர் மூக்கு ஒரு ஜதி ஆடும் ... விடைச்சு விடைச்சு விரிஞ்சு அகண்டு..

மூக்கிலே ஒரு உலகமே காட்டுவார்..

அதை நாங்க.. மூணு பேரும்.. ஜாடையா கண்ணால் சொல்லி.. பின்ன அடக்க முடியாமால் சிரிச்சு..

அங்கே இருக்கிற அத்தனை students attention divert பண்ணி.. ....

மாமா.. "சின்ன குழந்தைகள் எப்படி கலாட்டாபாருடி நு " மாமி கிட்ட வெகுளியா..சொல்லும்போது.. தப்பு பண்ணிட்டோமோனு ஒரு சோகம் வரும்..

சரஸ்வதி பூஜை அன்னிக்கு அவா ரெண்டு பேர் கிட்டயும் ஆசிவாதம் வாங்க ஒரு பெரிய queue நிக்கும்..

மாமியும் மாமாவும் அத்தனை students க்கும் அன்பா தர ஒரு ரூவா நாணயம் இருக்கே.. அது.. ஒரு கோடிக்கு சமம்..

இப்படியே சந்தோஷாமா போன நாட்கள் ஒரு நாள் முடிவுக்கு வந்தது..

வீணை மாமிக்கு குழந்தைகள் கிடையாது.

அதனால் காளஹஸ்தி க்கு போய்.. ஆசிரமத்தில் தங்கி அங்கேயே காலத்தை கழிக்க முடிவு பண்ணிட்டா..


எங்களை விட்டு அந்த அன்பான உள்ளங்கள் பிரிந்த நாளை இன்னிக்கும் மறக்க முடியாது..

இந்த காலம் மாதிரி photo எடுத்துக்கலை..

ஆனா அந்த இனிய நினைவுகள் இன்னிக்கும் பசுமரத்தாணி போல பதிஞ்சு இருக்கு..

அப்பறம்..எங்களுக்கு அவர்களை பத்தி எந்த தகவலும் கிடைக்கலை..

இப்படி ஏளனமா தொடங்கிய என் இசை ஆர்வம்.. எப்படி ஏக்கத்தில் முடிஞ்சதுன்னு

Hi Akila, just thought of adding some spice. From Mylapore, in Dec, Maniyin Thani...

“Mani’s Thani”
Pona Sani Gnayiru first thadavaiya this year’s Music cutcheri poga nerndhadhu. Idai ippadithan sollanum. Yenna, naan mattum thaniyaapoga vendi irundhadhu. Anu immersed herself with Sindh Civilization so that Arun could score in his half yearly. Aruny kooppittal, “ Back street boys” CD vaangi kuduthaathan Sudha Raghunathan kutchrikku varuven yendran… Adithya no chance. He is ok with Bharathanaattiyam as it resembles “Chandramuki”. He will watch that and keep blabbering all night in his sleep.
Appadiyaahatthaane, Bharathiya Vidya Bhavanil 4 kutcheri paarkka, ketka saadhiyappattathu. So, just thought of sharing few things on that.
Saturday 5pm.
Sikkil Gurucharan.- for a long time I was looking forward to attend his concert, as I read a lot about his performance. I would say at the end of the program, I was neither disappointed nor elated since the program was normal. Just about it. Very structured, no make ups, also, no hard core renderings. It was like they say “pachai kuzhandhaikku kuduththa muttham pola…”
Saturday 7pm
Priya Sisters:- it was rather a disappointing performance. My strong recommendation is that the sisters better concentrate on “yezhu malaiyaan mani malai” or “Amba parameshwari” kind of rendering than Thiagaraja or Dikshadhar. Both of them move a mile away from the mic when they touch the note Ga on the uchcha stayi.. I only remember some one’s mentioning in a weekly last month “ they better concentrate on their singing rather than their dressing before it is too late”. I am losing interest; I may not take pains again to attend their kutcheri in this season again…
Sunday 5P:
This was some Mohan playing Veena. My attending this at 5pm had two purposes. 1. Srimushnam Raja Rao mirdhangam.2. Seating. Getting seats for the 7pm kutcheri was pretty difficult if you reached there at around 7pm.
However, I was in for a pleasant surprise with the Veena, this guy started with Revathi in some veda (Vedam Pudidhu – Sahaveeryam Karava vagai).._from ---- Upanishad. I realized Veena is the instrument to play slokhas, or perhaps it was the raga.. whatever, it was appealing. Then, he started with RTP of Hemavathi… I have never heard that Raga till now. It was wonderful listening to it.
Unfortunately, during Thaanam, a string of veena broke. He asked Raja rao to start Thani and as usual, the “rasikaas” started urgently to go to wash room.. Rajarao stopped playing and he had few things to say.
“Every program this year, I am saying this. Someone says I should say this, someone doesn’t want me to say, but they go and tell somebody else about it. Anyway, Thani is not for us to play “thanimayile”. All of you want to go to bath room only when we start Thani. I can also go to bath room or for a bonda when the vidhwan played raagam. We don’t do it because, we respect the art and artist. If you keep doing this, Shiva will be very angry and he will cast a spell on you. Next year for every song, you will keep going to the bath room”
That was a nice one to say. The crowd was spell cast after this. However, the guy in my next seat was complaining. “look at this, 80% of the rasikaas are over 70 years, most of them have diabetes, they can’t sit for more than 2hours at a stretch. What can they do?”
Perhaps it is true. On the contrary it is also true that they choose the moment of Thani to get up from their seat, meaning, they attach secondary importance to that.
Anyway, as usual Rajarao’s performance was out of the world. He is my very favorite artist. The sound generated out of his mridhangam, I could never hear from any other. There is so much energy he pumps in to the people who listen. He is one of the greatest. He has not been very lucky to get the accolades like Umapaalpuram sivaraman or Vellore Ramabhadran…
Sunday 7pm:
Eagerly awaited Sudha Raghunathan’s program stated at 7.30 due to the delay in the previous closure. The crowed was so much so that many of the elders were sitting on the floor in the aisles and huge crowd outside the hall listening on the TV
It is time, someone told Sudha to attend to her throat. It appears that she is not even taking “vics”. Every 7th minute, she missed a note. Verum kaaththu thaanga varughu” This I noticed in another program 3 months before at Music Academy also. She appears in sensitive to her throat or the listener’s ears. Or both..
My only worry is that by the time she is thro with Dec, her last performance will be more of “air on music” than “music on air”

Anyway, like last time, she managed this hiccup brilliantly by her skills, and experience. It was a regular performance in Sudha’s standards.
She started with Kalyaani varnam “Saami Ninne” Moonraam kaalam set the kutcheri’s tempo. This was followed by ‘Kaa Vaa Vaa” and “Dehi, Vaidhahi”
The Raagam, Pallavi was taken in Shanmugapriya,”Velavaa Vaa” then, “Ranjani Niranjani” and closed with the usual “Kurai ondrun illai” (Yaaraavathu in tha paattii indha seasonale ban podungappa. Enough is enough)
Ranjani Niranjani is best sung by my favorite lady singer - Nithyasree.
One more point to mention is the accompaniment in Sudha’s kutcheri were brilliant. The same group you keep seeing in the TV. Unfortunately, the very good players who accompany famous artists, never become famous. And the senior famous vidhvaan’s stopped playing for famous singers, understandably so…
Miga “Azhagaaga” paadagi galukku vaasikkum pakka vaadhya kaarargal,paadagigalin “Thejus”il kaanaamal poividugirargal.. They unfortunately, never make it big. MS was the only exception. She had great stalwarts accompanied her…
My Thukkadaas:
• Sudha looked like Usha from a distance. Now, don’t get me wrong.. it could be the trick of bad light or the mic covering most of her face.
• I made friends with a maami whose daughter is singing in this season. I requested mami to take Sudha to an ENT specialist immediately
• This season, I have plans to go to the below artists performance (not in the order of perferance)
1. OS Arun
2. Nithyasree
3. TM Krishna
4. Aruna Sairam
5. Ranjani Gayathri
6. Sanjay Subramaniam

These are definite, and I will also try few others like, TNS, TVS B’bay J’sree
Tail piece – I have plans to look for my Maami friend with whom I had interesting interactions during Sudha’s kutcheri. Let me write about that another time..

Ok guys, here is the next update on the Dec kutcheries.

I attended Mambalam Sisters,
Sowmya and TM Krishna in the past few days.

mambalam Sisters: Nothing much to talk other than they both looked as if they had half a liter of Vilakkennai before coming to the program, and both looked as if they are in the 6th month of their pregnancy. Boy, who knows, i may be right here. Anyway, if i dont mention that "Yenna Kavi Paadinaalum" which they sang in the memory of Madurai Somu, I may be fried in the deep pan in the hell.They did a very good job here, but, that's about it.
About the accompaniment, i never thought Mridhangam could sound like a table top and Gatam like a biscuit tin cap.
Now Sowmya - She did the concert with occational brillance of imagination, good choice of Ragas (Karaharapriya, Bhairavi,Bilahari..) Orajupuchu was very good. The flip side is that she had only a violin and Mridhangam to support her and the stage was not complete. She made it with her brilliant flashy smile,ofcourse added to that her beige silk sari.

TM Krishna - This guy is phinominal. Even if I dont get a chance to see any more concerts this season, i wont be disappointed.This was a soul rendering concert. Fantastic. He started with Mayamalava Gowla followed by Kaylani,Thodi,Karaharapriya and Mohanam. The highlight of the program was Nari ReethiGowla (i thought it was plain Reethigowla) he said, this is 20th Melagartha raagam and in a different scheme, the 20th is NataBhairavi. But both are not same. You cant sing Naari Reethigowla just by knowing the aaroganam and Avaroganam. It is the way it is rendered which makes the raga come out. I dont remember when was the last time i had tears listening to good music. His Thodi made me almost weep. You may see this concert in Java TV. Maargazhi Mahotsavam. Dont miss it. Any one who has not heard his concerts yet must have been cursed in his previous Jenma. If you want mukthi, listen to his concert, LIVE.

NB; I havent located that Mami in both these concerts, a disappointment :-(
